Role Purpose/Accountabilities:
Role purpose:
- The Agronomy Research Technician will support the Agronomy
manager
with seed treating and trait screening process and activities.
Accountabilities:
- Maintain accurate seed treatment and trait screening records.
- Maintain seed treatment and trait screening equipment
- Schedule and carry out trait screens for TID and CN groups.
- Implement seed treating needs across all groups (Parent Seed, PPT, etc.)
- Assist with other chemical applications as required.
- Train workers assisting in seed treating and trait screening processes.
Knowledge, Skills &
Experience: Knowledge, experience & capabilities /
Critical knowledge: :
- Good understanding of pest management practices and chemistry.
- Knowledge of and ability to use
computer
hardware and software for data management and analysis. E.g., ArcInfo, Excel, Access.
- General understanding of seed treating and trait screening machinery and utilization.
- Knowledge of nursery management practices and requirements.
- Knowledge of seed crop research, production and quality assurance practices.
- Diagnoses and troubleshooting, for equipment problems, etc.
Critical
Experience:
Experience in tropical agricultural research preferred. Knowledge of farm operations and agronomy necessary. Ability to maintain/obtain a Commercial Applicator's License within 3 months of start date. The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Strong computer skills are helpful. The ability to function effectively as a team member and to perform detailed work is necessary. The ideal candidate will also be flexible, adaptable and safety-oriented.

- Timely recordkeeping and documentation of information. Critical timeliness of seed treatment, trait screening applications and implementation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE
Essential Functions:
- Frequent travel to seed research and production sites on Kauai.
- Periods of intense work at critical times during the crop cycle and growing season.
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING
Essential Functions:
- Indoor - extensive work at a computer for long periods of time.
- Outdoor - extensive field work and supervision of technical field staff.
