Role purpose :
- The Agronomy Research Associate will support the Agronomy
manager
with the agronomy IPM program; development of reports for the good neighbor program, record keeping, scouting and interpretation of scouting data to develop appropriate prescriptions, evaluation of the efficacy from current inputs and procedures, and assistance with applied field research to evaluate new products and practices.
Accountabilities: :
- Develop and implement appropriate reporting, documentation and recommended actions based on acquired information.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of current practices, audit pesticide records.
- Assist with the development and execution of applied field in the areas of Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
- Execute SOPs developed by Site Management Team. Aid in SOP implementation by IPM personnel. Assist with coordination and execution of agronomy group operations activities and SOP implementation.
- Regular updates and written progress reports, timelines and needs communicated as requested by managers.
- Inventory crop protection chemicals and maintain levels set by IPM lead.
Knowledge, Skills &
Experience: Knowledge, experience & capabilities /
Critical knowledge: :
- Good understanding of pest management practices.
- Knowledge of and ability to use
computer
hardware and software for data management and analysis. E.g., ArcInfo, Excel, Access.
- General understanding of field and machinery utilization.
- Knowledge of nursery management practices and requirements.
- Knowledge of seed crop research, production and quality assurance practices.
- Diagnoses and troubleshooting for pests, fertility, irrigation problems, etc.
Critical experience :
B.S. in agriculture or equivalent experience in tropical agricultural research preferred. Knowledge of farm operations and agronomy necessary. Ability to maintain/obtain a Commercial Applicator's License. The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Strong computer skills are preferred. The ability to function effectively as a team member and to perform detailed work is necessary. The ideal candidate will also be flexible, adaptable and safety-oriented.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE
Essential Functions:
- Frequent travel to seed research and production sites on Kauai.
- Periods of intense work at critical times during the crop cycle and growing season.
WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING
Essential Functions:
- Indoor - extensive work at a computer for long periods of time.
Outdoor - extensive field work and supervision of technical field staff.
